Happy Wake Ups

When Levi wakes up from naps, I like to sing to him.  I also sing when I change his diaper.  These two situations present themselves every day, multiple times each day.  They are regular, repeating opportunities to communicate to Levi that I’m happy he’s awake and I’m happy to spend time with him.  I want him to know it’s okay that he has poopie all over his bottom.  And that I am happy to help him with that too.

Happy wake ups

Well before he can understand the words I’m actually singing, he can understand my tone and perceive that his mom is happy with him in these situations.

Right now, Levi needs me to do almost everything for him.  He’s dependent on me and I have the privilege of caring for him.  As I care for him, I want to build him up.  Help him understand that I think he is of tremendous value.  That he’s worth caring for intentionally and joyfully.  Singing to him is just one way I do that.

What about you?  How do you build up your children?

I want him to know it’s okay that he has poopie all over his bottom.  And that I am happy to help him with that too.
