We stopped by Elizabeth’s Barber Shop in St. Paul, MN with a group of new dads and babies to experience firsthand the elevated experience of grooming happening in these spaces.
This historical building converted to an old-fashioned barber shop was manned by tatted groomers, eager and hospitable to our new dads.
The emphasis of community among these men was clear. Laughter, conversation, and squealing babies, filled the room. Classic Sinatra on the box with creaky floors and famous customers lined the walls.
This is the new face of men’s care. Men like Pat, the owner of Elizabeth’s, are reviving the traditional art of grooming men. In the process, they are creating an environment where men can find community and prioritize their personal grooming needs.
“To be a barber means to take care of the people, this art allows me to put peace in the world one person at a time and for me there is great responsibility in that. It’s so much more than just a haircut, really it’s like therapy for most men going to the barber.” - Pat Imholte
